The Pond is a location within Pocket Frogs where the frog is moved around from lily pad to lily pad by tapping. Only one frog can be brought to the pond at a time. At the pond, the frog can breed with other frogs found there, eat flies to increase happiness and/or maturity and to tame the frog, and find presents.

The Pond

Eating Dragonflies[]

One of the activities at the Pond is eating flies. Flies fly around the Pond and a frog can eat one as they move from one lily pad to another. Flies are automatically eaten as the frog hops over it. Flies are used to tame the frog, reduce time to mature by one to one and a half minutes per fly, increase happiness by 1-4% per fly, and gain XP (about 10 points at random). Bigger flies increase those values more than smaller flies. Bigger flies also move faster.

Breeding[]

Another activity that can be performed at the pond is breeding. Mature, tamed frogs can be bred with other frogs found resting on lily pads. There also needs to be one open spot in the nursery for the egg. To breed, the frog must land on the same lily pad as the other frog. The other frog might move at the same time, before the player's frog lands. Once the frogs are on the same lily pad, a pop-up will ask to breed the frogs and the cost of the breeding. If the frogs are bred, an egg will be added to the nursery. If breeding is attempted before the frog is tame or mature, or the nursery is full, a pop-up will occur and the frog will disappear.

Frogs found on the pond are frogs of the player's level and below. Breeding with frogs at the pond increases diversity of the frogs a player has. Patterns that have been recently unlocked (by leveling up) can be found at the pond. The FrogMart only sells a single breed of a level higher than 8 every day (at the cost of 25 potions) so breeding at the pond is one way to obtain new patterns.

Presents[]

Presents can be found on lily pads in the pond. Presents contain a variety of items including coins, stamps, potions, frogs, decorations or backgrounds.

There are two colors of presents: yellow and red (also called pink by some users). Yellow ones contain items and frogs at random levels, as well as a random amount of coins and consumables. Red presents contain more rare items, frogs of higher levels and larger amounts of coins and consumables.

Yellow presents can contain:

  • Coins: random value up to half your level x50 (odd level numbers round up)
  • Frog: A frog at a random level up to your level (up to 36)
  • Decoration: A decoration at a random level up to your level (max level 9)
  • Background: A background at a random level up to your level (max level 9)
  • Stamps or Potions: random value up to half your level (odd level numbers round up)

Red presents can contain:

  • Coins: half your level x150 (odd level numbers round up)
  • Frog: A frog at your level (max level 36)
  • Decoration: A decoration at your level (max level 9)
  • Background: A background at your level (max level 9)
  • Stamps or Potions: half your level (odd level numbers round up)

The 9 levels of decorations and backgrounds correspond to the shipping times from the Supply Shop. [1]

Gifts are found on lily pads. The frog needs to hop onto that lily pad to collect the gift. The frog does not need to be mature or tamed to collect the gift. A pop-up will occur to inform the player of the gift's contents.

To accept a frog or decoration one mailbox slot must be open. If not, the player cannot accept the item. Frogs and decorations can be turned down and the player will be given 1/2 the value of a frog, or 1/4th of the value of decoration, in coins.

If the mailbox is full, a pop-up will occur as the player enters the pond. If collecting a gift makes the mailbox full, a pop-up will occur notifying the player of this and giving them the option to clear a space.

Fireflies[]

Starting with version 3.6.10 of the game a Firefly can appear at random times in the pond. Tapping it will gives rewards.

Lily Pads[]

The lily pads at the pond are arranged in a rough 3 by 3 grid. The frog is always at the center, so when it hops, the visible area shifts to follow. A frog can only hop onto another lily pad.

There is no edge to the Pond: no matter how far a frog hops in any direction, so there will always be more lily pads to land on. However, the lily pads do despawn if not on screen and a player will find a different set of lily pads in a different arrangement if the frog is brought back along the same path. Flies, other frogs and gifts follow this pattern of despawning.
